The staff covered by the agreement, approximately 4,100 in total, are represented by the Public Utilities Alliance of Canada and the YEU. The allocation of staff in the 2019-20 territorial budget is $557.6 million, or 37 per cent of the $1.5 billion budget. This does not include Yukon College staff or territorial hospitals. About 4,000 members of the Yukon Workers` Union will vote this week on whether to accept a new three-year collective agreement. Steve Geick, President of the Yukon Employees Union, speaks at a press conference in Whitehorse on December 18, 2018. According to Geick, a new collective agreement between the Yukon government and the Yukon Workers` Union will allow Yukon workers to take up to 48 hours of paid leave if they experience workplace trauma. (Crystal Schick/Yukon News file) The agreement provides for pay increases totalling 5.25 per cent over three years, including some retroactive pay, as well as increases in salary categories, weekend bonuses and work bonuses for hours worked between 4 .m and 8 .m. The four teams representing the leadership team are on their way this week to visit each municipality and highway camp, explain the agreement and gather votes from union members. As a small contractor for YG, I am still waiting for the “contract change” to adjust my contract to the consumer price index. 2% pitiful. It came into force on April 1, 2019. It`s good to see that they take care of themselves. 4 months to find out how to add 2% to my hourly rate and still wait.
“Many hours of hard work have been done by teams on both sides to secure this collective agreement.” 37% of Yukon`s total budget is spent annually on YEU salaries. Yukon government staff pool grows every year. Yukon will certainly be heading for a huge recession in a short period of time. The government is currently reviewing the Health and Social Services Division to reduce all of its spending each year. This revision should identify ways to significantly reduce spending. In this case, all other departments will also have to reduce spending. Don`t cut services for Yukoners. Instead, the members of the European UNION lay off and break off contact and reduce the wages of all YEU workers by 15%. Also leave a lot of high-level overpaid manager. By doing nothing, ignoring this problem, the Yukon is certainly heading for very large budget deficits in the future.
The collective agreement covers everything from the posted work bonus to maternity leave and parental leave. Most government employees are there every day to do their jobs. That`s what we talk about guys and girls doing the work. You know. worker bees. The trend now is to give the manager/adms/dms computer and eliminate their assistants. it turned out that it was the assistants who did the work, that had to be done, the letters written, the programs updated, and the upper buttons went to meetings with lunch, traveled to each conference under the sun. Skype means nothing to them.
There is a lack of talented people educated in the higher ranks. It is for the money, and there are many. up to 150K or more. They don`t even spend their money here because they can afford Hawaii, Mexico, Cancun. For these reasons, I agree that the upper Escutcheon needs to be reviewed and lowered. I also think they have to hire people who speak English or French to understand quite clearly what you are saying to them. Yukon was born and did not grow up to get no preference for hiring. Yukon College is a financial and office administrator every year. Someone from Ontario has that job. Our own youth leave us to find jobs for which many of these governments do not have new employees.
